ImageDear friends, prospects and alumni of the ICI,

The first half of the year 2009 was dominated by news of the demise (well, sort of demise) of SCIP - THE society of competitive intelligence.

While no attempt was made to inform SCIP’s members during its April annual conference in Chicago, members were informed on May 7th of the need to either vote to commence merger negotiations with the Frost & Sullivan Institute or to shut down operations within just a few weeks, due to lack of financial means. It came as no surprise that the majority of the few participating SCIP members voted for a continuation of operations.

Shocked, stunned and amazed – this best describes my reaction towards this development that was not so unexpected to insiders

Apart from this lowlight, the first half of 2009 for the ICI saw another successful series of open workshops in the US, UK and Germany as well as conference exhibitions at SCIP’s Chicago conference and a primer at the SLA annual conference in Washington. Another first for the ICI was our participation and presentation at the ECIS/Atelis bi-annual conference in Stockholm in June. The latter is a very interesting development for European Competitive Intelligence Academia. Our own very first conference in the Dolce in Bad Nauheim was a huge success – a subsequent conference is scheduled to take place April 20-21st, 2010.

The second half of 2009 will include more open workshops in the US and Germany, along with workshops in France and Spain for the very first time.

Last but not least the ICI has designed more certificates based on its existing pool of 28 days of high caliber workshops. A fundamental certificate of Competitive Intelligence (FCCI) incorporates our 10 basic level workshops. Advanced certificates in Management, Research, Analysis and Strategy allow participants to achieve a specialist’s certificate degree in 3 to 5 days. The Certificate of Proficiency in Competitive Intelligence (CPCI) will remain our mastery level of certification for those seeking the most comprehensive and elite CI education available in the industry.

We are also delighted to inform you that an English version of the 19-day CIE certificate – offered in cooperation with the Graduate School Rhein-Neckar - will be available from summer 2010.
