Abstract:
Traditionally in CI literature, the Internet has been _ where it was not outright marginalized _ viewed as a source of secondary data. The development of Web 2.0 along with the advent of Social Media and User Generated Content necessitates a reevaluation of this conservative stance. Using several examples, it is shown that although the information neces- sary for CI can be found on Social Media sites in its primary form and lends itself to automated extraction and presentation, this approach has its pitfalls. The ever-present problem of data quality and relevance is addressed and methods to tackle it are presented.
Key topics:
- Potentials and limits of blogs, forums and microblogs for online CI
- Why do we need an automatic online CI solution?
- Important things you should be aware of before you decide to use an automatic solution.
- Learn how to address quality and relevance issues.
